SARAI Gallery is pleased to announce its participation at Taipei Dangdai 2023 Edge with a solo presentation by young Iranian artist Parham Peyvandi (1989) consisting of a selection of recent paintings and works on paper including monoprints by the artist. Taipei Dangdai 2023 is due to take place from May 11 - 14, 2023 at Nangang Exhibition Center, Taipei, Taiwan.
Parham Peyvandi is a visual artist with an MA in painting from Tehran University of Art and, he currently lives and works in Tehran. Before becoming a professional artist, Parham Peyvandi majored in urban design at the same university. It was through technical and perspective drawing exercises that his talent began to flourish as well as his lasting fascination with the aesthetics of maps and the part-geometrical, part-organic beauty of urban landscapes. Driven by environmental values, Parham Peyvandi's oil paintings and drawings, particularly from his recent series "Gazing Through the City", focus on the contradictions and connections between urban and natural, depicting a grey, cubic city devoid of any life or character, in an unlikely coexistence with the vibrant nature surrounding it. Also presented are a number of Peyvandi's monoprint drawings. These monochrome works inspired by Persian mythology are made of delicately carved undulations, offering a pleasant counterbalance to his colorful urban scenes.
In 2017, Parahm Peyvandi won the second prize at the prestigious Foundation Behnam Bakhtiar's Award entitled "FUTURE IRAN" and his work was exhibited in Monte Carlo, Monaco, establishing himself as one of the most promising artists of his generation. Represented by SARAI, Peyvandi had his first solo presentation at the Armoy Show 2022, NY. His work has also been presented at ASIA NOW, Paris, and KIAF SEOUL 2022 editions by SARAI Gallery.
