Art Dubai 2024

Madinat Jumeirah, Dubai, UAE, 1 - 3 March 2024

SARAI Gallery is excited to announce its return to Art Dubai. SARAI will be participating in Art Dubai 2024 with a group presentation featuring Iranian artists Moslem Khezri (b. 1984), Shima Faridani (b. 1982), Sam Nikmaram (b. 1991, Iran), Faezeh Zandieh (b. 1993, Iran), and Sadaf Seyed (b. 1996). Curated by Roxane Zand, the present selection consists of visually vibrant and thematically diverse paintings, works on paper, and sculptures.
SARAI Gallery's group presentation includes works both by artists who are familiar to Art Dubai visitors and new faces. Internationally established figurative artist Moslem Khezri is represented by works from his recent series about immigration and how human bodies move through huge, apathetic airport interiors, leaving behind tender, ghostly traces of images, sound vibrations, and smells. Discoveries made by an international jury during recent editions of the KHOR art prize, Shima Faridani, Faezeh Zandieh, and Sadaf Seyed are female artists with strong visions. Faridani creates lush, fantastical ecosystems of part-animal, part-plant creatures delicately rendered in watercolors full of wonders and little narratives within a larger orchestra of magical coexistence. Zandieh's works primarily revolve around the theme of conflict and violence among humans. Her paintings depict partially unclothed figures engaged in battles or preparing for imminent conflicts within natural surroundings. Seyed's monochrome works, reflect her attitude towards our contemporary social conditions where feelings of loss and lack of a sense of belonging are pandemic. Yet, for her, light embodies hope in dark spaces influenced by traditional Persian painting and architecture. Her dark geometric abstractions are counter-balanced by Sam Nikmaram's softer, more playful imaginary creatures of mythological aura. His concern for nature and the forces shaping our living environment is reflected in his choice of material - papier-mâché sculptures made of disposable objects.
