In this work, what we see is a cinematic situation in a medium shot: the fighter on the right throws a punch at his opponent’s face, but dodging this punch, the boxer on the left is in an offensive position about to deliver an upper-cut towards the other boxer’s chin. This event which will occur in the very near future (almost a fraction of a second) brings a hidden and potential energy to the scene by creating a sharp contrast between the well-lit, brilliant yellow background and the field inside the ring with vast greys and drippings here and there in the painting, and also through the red blots of the gloves, Zakeri represents this energy in a spectacular fashion.
Due to the interior lighting of the boxing arena the bodies of the athletes with rough green, brown, and grey stains, make a meaningful contrast with their backdrop and their positioning in a field that is one-third of the entire painting, putting this cinematic action in proper suspense.
